What is coaching?
Coaching is a professional relationship that helps people achieve life and career goals. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their understanding of themselves, improve performance and enhance their quality of life.
Coaches help clients look forward.
Rather than focusing on the past, as in a therapeutic relationship, coaching starts with the now and looks forward to the future. Coaches help clients focus on where they are in their lives and what they are willing to do to get where they want to be. Coaches help clients explore their core values, passions and roles and help them create the future they want.
Coaching is client driven.
One of the key principles of coaching is that the client is the expert in his or her own life. The job of the coach is to help the client discover, clarify and align what he or she wants to achieve. In each coaching meeting, the client chooses the focus of the conversation while the coach listens and contributes observations and questions. Coaches encourage client self-discovery, elicit client-generated solutions and strategies, and keep clients on track to achieve their goals.
